Baetis Audio Reference 2B Features

The Roon-Ready Reference 2B used to be our the top line for audio capabilities – designed to be coupled with the best DACs in the world. It produces a slightly warmer, universally pleasing, sound than the legacy Reference X2. As you would expect, it has our Reference 75-Ohm BNC and 110 Ohm AES daughterboard with EMI shield, a 300W linear power supply unit (LPSU) from HD-Plex, and all internal power and audio wiring is cryo-treated 5-N pure silver from Revelation Audio Labs. The SOtM USB ports and clock cards are included should you have a T+A DAC, for example. It is far superior to our original Reference model in every way.

The Reference 2B was supposed to be a simple generational upgrade of the motherboard and CPU from the Reference 2. To our surprise, the six-core processor, which barely breaks a sweat with music or video files, provided a superior clarity of sound over the 7th generation CPU! It comes in our full-size case, which has room for easy future upgrades. It can also handle 4K video files up to 24 frames per second (covering almost every single Hollywood movie made, ever).

The Reference 2B is available in silver or black. It is currently a clearance product available only directly from us. We will soon not have the ability to make any more of this classis.

FAQ

What audiophile grade outputs does the Reference 2 series have?

These systems have our award-winning AES-EBU output powered by the Baetis Audio Reference daughterboard with an EM shield. The daughterboard also provides a SPDIF output, now available as either BNC or RCA. system. HDMI for high resolution multi-channel output is also included. The SOtM USB and clock cards are included as standard, with custom made cabling that is better than the stock card’s own. The USB option can be removed for a rebate if not needed. Network and I2S DAC connections are also options.

Can I run Roon on these models?

Yes, you can run Roon, JRiver Media Center, Audirvana, Tidal, Qobuz (if available) and much more. In fact, any music app that runs on Windows 10 can be run on this unit. All Baetis Audio models can serve as a Roon core, endpoint or both. Your Tidal streaming never sounded so good! Tell us what you want and we can set it up for you.

Can this unit play 4K video with HDR?

The Reference 2V certainly can! The system is powered by an AMD APU, which handles 4K very well with HDR up to 30 fps. The Intel-powered Reference 2B can also display a crisp 4K image but it’s more limited in its HDR capability.

Can I control the unit with a tablet?

Yes, you can use an iOS or Android device to control playback. You can even use another computer, or control the system directly with a wireless keyboard and trackpad from your listening position.

What’s the difference between the Reference X series and the Reference 2 Series?

The Reference 2 series has a warmer sounding codec, which some of the most discerning audiophiles prefer. It also comes in a larger chassis, which improves cooling and upgradability. The SOtM Ultra USB package, with a clock card and cryo-silver cabling comes as standard (but can optionally be removed). Both product lines include a linear power supply unit and audiophile grade DC cable, both of which improve the sound considerably over the Revolution series.

Can I get the Reference 2 Series with an SOtM USB, or an I2S or network output?

In addition to the AES-EBU, SPDIF and HDMI outputs, you can opt to replace the SOtM USB solution with an I2S or network output. Other custom combinations might be available if you contact us to design a bespoke solution for you. If you need all the outputs possible in one unit, you should look at the Reference 3 systems.

Is there an optical drive in the unit?

The Reference 2 -series is available with or without internally-housed optical drives. If you want to make back up of 4K UHD discs, we’d recommend no internal optical drive and choosing to add an external 4K reading drive instead.

What is the warranty on the Reference 2 Series?

There is a two year parts and labour warranty on these. However, as usual, we always listen to each case on its own merits and do the reasonable thing if you need service outside the warranty period, depending on the circumstances.
