Prodigy Limited Edition Canada Features

Canadian audiophiles asked for a lower priced model with fewer features. We responded with the Prodigy Limited Edition Canada available in small quantities only. Initially only sold in Canada – it’s now available everywhere! The Prodigy LE Canada comes in either blue, silver, black or red, with a brushed metallic finish and tempered glass or aluminum cover. This small powerhouse serves up great sound and video, but with limited options. It’s the smallest Baetis Audio server/streamer ever made.

Of course, it has a coaxial RCA or BNC SPDIF output that uses the Baetis Audio proprietary daughterboard to give it the audio quality you expect from us. Its processor can even play 4K HDR video without issue, should you choose to. It doesn’t have the passively cooled thick aluminum chassis of a traditional Baetis system, nor does it come with a Neutrik power connector or an internal optical media drive – there simply isn’t room for such on the tiny 8” x 8” footprint.

What it can do is play your music and video libraries flawlessly, stream Tidal, Qobuz or any other streaming service. And, naturally, like all other Baetis systems, you can use it as a Roon Core, endpoint or both. Playback can be controlled via a tablet (iOS, Android or Windows), a laptop or using a keyboard with integrated trackpad – just like its bigger brethren.

The Prodigy LE Canada comes with a switch-mode power brick, but can optionally be upgraded to a Linear Power Supply Unit (LPSU) from HD-Plex.

FAQ

What audiophile grade outputs does the Prodigy LE Canada have?

The Baetis Audio SPDIF output, now available as either BNC or RCA is included as standard. The unit sports our daughterboard to make the SPDIF signal sound as good as any other Prodigy system. HDMI for high resolution multi-channel output is also included.

Can I run Roon on this model?

Yes, you can run Roon, JRiver Media Center, Audirvana, Tidal, Qobuz (if available) and much more. In fact, any music app that runs on Windows 10 can be run on this unit. The Prodigy LE Canada can serve as a Roon core, endpoint or both. Your Tidal streaming never sounded so good! Tell us what you want and we can set it up for you.

Can this unit play 4K video with HDR?

Absolutely, yes! The system is powered by an AMD APU, which handles 4K very well with HDR up to 30 fps.

Is this a “real” Baetis?

Definitely, yes! It has the same joy-giving SPDIF circuitry, cabling and daughterboard as the Prodigy X series. It produces the same ultra high definition video signal. We also resisted the temptation to cut costs further and kept the same standard external power supplies used by other Baetis Audio models. It is backed by the same level of personalised service as you expect from our higher priced offerings.

Can I control the unit with a tablet?

Yes, you can use an iOS or Android device to control playback. You can even use another computer, or control the system directly with a wireless keyboard and trackpad from your listening position.

Why did you produce a unit that looks so different from your other systems?

We’re always listening to our customers’ feedback and innovating. The chassis of the Prodigy LE Canada gave us the opportunity to produce a streamer-server box with fantastic sound and video quality at a price that everyone could afford. The cases we use in our traditional systems are a large cost of production. We realised that many customers wanted a lower priced option, or a second Baetis for their secondary rooms. Some have separate home theaters and listening rooms. Some are simply getting into the audiophile life and want something that is the best bang for the buck before moving on to even better sounding Baetis units.

I don’t live in Canada. Can I still get one?

Yes, you can still buy one outside Canada if we have some in stock. If these units sell well, we will produce similar systems for the US market.

Can I get the Prodigy LE Canada with an AES or SOtM USB output?

Unfortunately, no. The tiny size of this unit (8” x 8” footprint) means there is no room inside the chassis for the extra cabling/circuitry for these outputs, and there is no space on the outside to accommodate the extra connectors either.

Is there an optical drive in the unit?

There is no optical drive included in the base option – there is simply no space. However, a slim, external drive can be added. There are options for ripping CDs and DVDs, and also for BluRay and 4K UHD discs too. Some of our customers just want something they can stream on, with archiving their disc media as a lower priority.

What is the warranty on this unit?

There is a one year parts and labour warranty on this. However, as usual, we always listen to each case on its own merits and do the reasonable thing if you need service outside the warranty period, depending on the circumstances. We are unlikely to deny you service on a faulty part 367 days after purchase.
